Tennis: Westmount’s Bouchard reaches Istanbul final

Genie Bouchard continued her climb up the WTA Tour rankings Saturday when she defeated Spaniard Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-2 within the semifinals of the TEB BNP Paribas clay-court event in Istanbul.

Bouchard, who needed to qualify for the primary draw, needed to survive a few three-hour matches to reach the semifinals, however she breezed by Saturday’s match in a single hour and 25 minutes. She broke Badosa’s serve 4 instances and fought off six of seven break factors on her serve.

Bouchard, who reached a career-high No. 5 within the rankings in 2014, dropped to No. 330 earlier than than pandemic halted play. Her win Saturday ensures her a rating of 163 and she will climb to 137 with a win in Sunday’s remaining.

Her opponent can be Patricia Maria Tig of Romania, who superior with a 6-3, 6-Three win over Czech qualifier Tereza Martincova.
